
Jamal T. Johnson serves as the Associate Director for the Office of Mentoring, Retention, and Success Programs within the Student Success and Retention Department. In this role, he oversees the P.R.I.D.E. Mentoring Program, Commitment Scholars Grant Program, serves as the Campus Liaison to the Cooperman College Scholars Program and assists in the management of the Harcourt Scholarship Program.
Prior to this role, Mr. Johnson worked in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as the Assistant Director for Multicultural Recruitment. Before coming back to his Alma Mater in 2007, he was employed by both the East Orange and Plainfield Public Schools as an Elementary Educator.
A lifelong educator Jamal has dedicated his professional career to empowering others and helping them to overcome obstacles and thrive. In his over 20 years of experience, he has served on many committees and has shared the success of his programs nationally. Mr. Johnson was the inaugural recipient of the Staff Inclusive Excellence Award. Of his many roles, Mr. Johnson enjoys the role of being a girl dad to his beautiful daughters best!
Jamal T. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Sociology from The College of New Jersey, has completed coursework in Counselor Education, and is currently completing a Master of Theological studies.
